Abstract
Motorcycle crashes are a major problem on roads, and most injuries and deaths occur due to the lack of helmet use by riders. The current project introduces a Real-Time Helmet Detection System that improves road safety by automatically identifying helmet use among two-wheeler drivers. The system uses YOLO (You Only Look Once) to detect whether a rider is wearing a helmet or not, and if not, it takes a snapshot that also contains the number plate of the bike. The system uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to pull out the number plate information and issue a fine automatically to the
owner of the registered vehicle. This reduces the enforcement process and removes the necessity for manual intervention. The use of real-time detection and automated fine issuance promotes higher compliance with helmet regulations, leading to a safer road environment.
